Bhubaneswar: A scuffle broke out between Congress workers and Odisha Police near Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi’s residence in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday. The Congress party was protesting the gang rape of a college student at Gopalpur sea beach in Ganjam district, which took place on June 15.
The protesting Congress workers and leaders were stopped by the police while trying to march towards the Chief Minister’s residence to hold a gherao. Several Congress leaders, including State in-charge Ajay Kumar Lallu, CLP leader Ramchandra Kadam, and others, were arrested by the police.
Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra condemned the incident, stating that violence against women has been on the rise in Odisha. She criticized the state’s law and order situation, citing the Chief Minister’s admission that around 44,000 women and children had gone missing in the past five years.
State Congress in-charge Lallu demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Majhi, citing his failure to maintain law and order in the state.
