Bhubaneswar: Odisha Congress is all set for a massive protest today in front of the Odisha Assembly over the rising incidents of violence against women. This comes after 14 Congress MLAs were suspended from the Assembly for a week due to disorderly behaviour.
The protest has been building up since Monday, continuing through the night. Congress workers are expected to march in protest and lay siege to the legislative premises today.
Meanwhile, the Commissionerate Police has deployed 80 platoon police to ensure full-proof security during the gherao. The police are on high alert, with all security measures heightened in and around the Assembly to avoid any untoward incident.
Following the suspension, Congress members on Tuesday clashed with the police in front of the Assembly which again escalated political tensions in the state. Terming the suspension of MLAs undemocratic, the Congress party has decided to intensify its agitation.
The Congress party’s protest is expected to be intense, prompting the police to beef up security around the Odisha Assembly. With tensions running high, police have taken precautionary measures to maintain law and order in the area.
