Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Electoral Officer Surendra Kumar informed today that re-polling in 12 booths, where elections took place in phase-III (April 23), have been recommended to Election Commission of India.
They are: Booth 62 in Bramhagiri assembly constituency, booth 196 in Baramba AC, booth 183 in Deogarh AC, booth 222 in Bramhagiri, booth 78 in Satyabadi, booth 85 in Talcher, booth 90 in Athagarh, booth 100, 137 and 138 in Athagarh AC, booth 127 in Bhubaneswar Central AC and booth 171 in Ghasipura.
Explaining what went wrong in booth 62, he said that due to human error the Control Unit of EVM was kept in some other strong room, other than the designated one. “There were 12 strong rooms and the polling official has committed a mistake. The error was noticed at the time of sealing the room,” he said.
The error was immediately reported to the Returning Officer and in order to ensure complete transparency and credibility of the polling process, the CEO has recommended re-polling in that booth.
“In other booth, there were problems like mispairing of EVM and VVPAT or technical glitches in the machines. It can be assumed that the ECI will propose a date after April 29 (phase-IV) for the re-polling in these booths,” he concluded.
