Bhubaneswar: Ex-junior accountant of Kashinagar Block Development Office in Gajapati district has been dismissed from the government service following his conviction in a vigilance trap case.
The accused has been identified as B Chandra Sekhar Behera.
Behera was charge-sheeted by Odisha Vigilance for demanding and accepting a bribe from a school teacher for preparing and passing his arrear bills. After being convicted, Behera was dismissed from service as per the provision of OCS (CCA) Rules, 1962 with effect from 17.05.2024.
According to sources, the Vigilance court in Berhampur had convicted Behera and sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for two years for demanding the bribe amount from the teacher.
The court had imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on him. In default of payment, Behera would have to undergo further rigorous imprisonment of four months for the offence under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
Following the conviction of Behera, Odisha Vigilance communicated to the competent authority to take appropriate action against Behera. Accordingly, Behera was dismissed from government service.
