Phulbani: In a shocking incident near the Sai Temple in Phulbani town, two drunken youths launched a brutal assault on a police constable in broad daylight, attempting to kill him by pushing him to the ground and raining blows on his face, neck, and chest while kicking him mercilessly. The video of the scene went viral on internet.
The attack unfolded in full public view, yet bystanders hesitated to intervene out of fear. The two inebriated men, who had earlier engaged in a senseless quarrel, overpowered the officer and continued the violent beating.
Fortunately, a group of TV journalists from Phulbani, who were nearby at a tea shop, witnessed the horrific scene. They immediately raised an alarm, shouted to alert others, and rallied the gathering crowd.
Braving the aggression of the drunken assailants, the journalists courageously intervened, freeing the injured constable from their clutches. They promptly transported the wounded cop in their own vehicle to the Phulbani District Headquarters Hospital for urgent medical treatment.
Meanwhile, the Phulbani Town Police Station team arrived at the spot, apprehended the two accused, and took them to the police station after initial medical checks.
A case has been registered against the perpetrators under relevant sections. The injured constable’s wife, also a serving police personnel, has joined the family in demanding strict and swift action against the drunkards and rising criminal elements in Phulbani city to ensure public safety.
