Cuttack: Tangi police have arrested a Home Guard for allegedly attempting to rape a 28-year-old woman inside the Manguli police outpost under Tangi police limits in Cuttack district on Friday night. Police have also arrested two others for raping the woman.
The victim, a 28-year-old woman of Balagandi Puri was invited by one Gopal Samal with whom she had a relationship to come to Bhubaneswar on 24th of this month, informed Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), Choudwar Satyabrata Lenka quoting from the complaint lodged by the victim at the Tangi police station.
Lenka said that after the victim reached Bhubaneswar Gopal had physical relationship with her against her will and then asked his friend Srikant who is a driver to drop her.
“Srikant took her to Agrahat area and had forcibly maintained physical relationship with her. He then took her to a ‘dhaba’ at Manguli Chakk to have food and abandoned her. She tried to contact him over the phone but since he didn’t pick up her call, then she called Gopal over the phone who advised her to report at the police outpost,” said Lenka.
She has alleged that while she had gone to the police outpost at Manguli, the Home Guard on duty there had attempted to rape her, he added.
“In this connection, a case has been registered at the Tangi police station. Based on her allegations her statement has been recorded before a magistrate. On the basis of facts and evidence we have arrested the three accused persons and forwarded them to court,” the Choudwar SDPO stated.
