Bhubaneswar: Trouble mounted for noted playback singer Saurin Bhatt as a non-bailable arrest warrant (NBW) was issued against him in a sexual assault case.
The Commissionerate police moved the court seeking NBW. The court accepted the application and issued issued the same against the singer. After the NBW is issued, he can be arrested by the police at any time for not cooperating with the investigation. There are allegations of sexual harassment against him.
Police had to file a petition in court after he repeatedly evaded arrest. The court accepted the plea and issued a NBW, said Nirmal Mishra, additional DCP, Cuttack.
In June this year, a young woman filed a complaint against the singer at Mahila Police station in Cuttack alleging sexual harassment. Bhatt allegedly promised to marry her despite being married.
After knowing this, the victim wanted to stay away from Saurin.
Bhatt did not disclose to the woman he is married with a child and developed physical relationship on the pre-text of marriage. When the woman came to know about the marital status and refused to continue the relationship, Bhatt allegedly blackmailed her to make the objectionable photographs viral.
After registration of case, Bhatt had moved to Orissa High Court seeking anticipatory bail in August. The court had rejected the bail application.
