Coronavirus Scare: Odisha Health Dept Releases Advisory On Holi Celebrations
Bhubaneswar: As nations across the world are tackling with coronavirus outbreak, Odisha Health and Family Welfare Department’s Principal Secretary Nikunja Bihari Dhal on Monday released an advisory on dos and don’ts for the upcoming festival of Holi.
“Holi is an important festival for us and we wait for a whole year to enjoy it with our family and friends, organise community lunch and rain dance at some places. But the circumstances this year are different,” said Dhal.
“Coronavirus generally spreads through droplets, therefore, I request all to not organise mass gatherings or community lunch during Holi tomorrow. People suffering from cold, cough and fever should not participate in the celebrations,” he added.
Dhal, however, said that people can play Holi with the family and close friends but requested all to take the following precautions:
- Don’t put colours on people’s face
- Wash hands frequently
- Don’t shake hands or hug
Previously Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and Governor Prof Ganeshi Lal had announced that they would avoid the Holi celebrations this year in the midst of coronavirus crisis. Notably, there has not been a single positive case from Odisha detected so far.
