Bhubaneswar: To be better prepared in dealing with emergencies, a counter-terror mock drill was conducted at Bhubaneswar’s largest shopping mall Esplanade One in Rasulgarh on Friday morning.
The half-an-hour drill was conducted by teams of Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF), Fire Services personnel, Bomb Squads and Civil defence team.
During the mock drill, personnel with metal detectors and special suits diffused a bomb in a controlled environment. Injured people were carried out and a masked terrorist was also captured, said officials.
Mock rescue operation for customers stuck in fire and active shooting was also conducted. Meanwhile, mall authorities said that the drill was conducted as it was better to be safe than sorry.
This was the second compliance day for Esplanade Mall One. The first drill was conducted on March 28 in the mall.
Such drills not only help in preparedness and readiness, but also help in identifying the strengths and lacunae of the disaster management forces in order to be better prepared for the future.
