Kandhamal: A couple ended their lives allegedly after a quarrel over mobile phone. The incident has been reported from Budukiya village under Baliguda police limits in Odisha’s Kandhamal district.
The deceased have been identified as Pramod Malik and his wife Puari Malik. The hanging bodies of the couple were recovered by the police on Thursday morning.
According to reports Puari had brought a smartphone from her father’s house a few days back but her husband Pramod had taken the mobile phone and mortgaged it for buying alcohol. Since then, the couple had regular fights over the mobile phone. The quarrel escalated on Wednesday and Puari locked herself in a room of the house and hanged herself from the ceiling. Later, Pramod went to another room in the house and ended his life by hanging.
On Thursday morning, neighbours heard the loud cries of the couple’s 11-month-old girl and knocked on their door. As no one opened the door, the neighbours became suspicious and peeked inside the house through the windows. They were shocked to see the couple hanging from the ceiling of different room and informed the police about the incident.
The police arrived this morning and recovered the bodies in the presence of a magistrate and sent them for autopsy. The cops are investigating the incident.
