Bhubaneswar: A couple committed suicide by consuming poisonous allegedly due to the burden of loan repayment at Purnachandrapur village under Khallikote block in Ganjam district, on Wednesday.
The deceased couple identified as Ladu Kishore Maharana and his wife Sajani Maharana had reportedly taken a group loan from a finance company but failed to repay it. The company authorities allegedly shouted at them.
Villagers have alleged that the loan company authorities were harassing the couple, which led to their decision to end their lives.
Purusottampur police started an investigation and seized the bodies of the couple and are looking into the circumstances surrounding their death.
