Keonjhar: A married couple was set on fire when they were fast asleep in their house at Dhagotha village under Harichadanpur police limits in Keonjhar district on Sunday.
Reportedly, Ugrasen Palei and his wife Jayanti Palei were sleeping in their house when some miscreants locked their door from outside. The doors of the neighbours’ houses were also locked by the miscreants.
Subsequently, the miscreants poured kerosene around the house and set it on fire. The neighbours heard the couple screaming but were unable to rush to their rescue as their houses were locked from the outside.
The neighbours managed to rush to the rescue after a few minutes but the couple had already suffered severe burn injuries. They were immediately rushed to Harichandanpur Community Health Centre.
After receiving preliminary treatment, they were shifted to the district headquarters hospital from where they were referred to SCB Medical College & Hospital in Cuttack.
