Bhubaneswar: Third phase of serological (sero) survey to determine the prevalence of antibodies against the novel Coronavirus or SARS Cov-2 will begin in Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) area from tomorrow.
“From tomorrow onwards we will start next phase of ser surveillance in Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation area,” informed BMC Commissioner Prem Chandra Chaudhary today.
Chaudhary said that the sero survey will be conducted by the BMC in collaboration with Regional Medical Research Centre (RMRC) Bhubaneswar.
The survey will be conducted by BMC’s Deputy Commissioners and LTs in coordination with personnel from RMRC, he clarified.
The BMC Commissioner revealed that all preparations for sero survey like ward selection etc have been completed.
He stated that a few days after completion of the survey BMC would declare the result about the prevalence of antibodies against Covid among citizens of Bhubaneswar.
Chaudhary informed that BMC has conducted around 3 lakh Covid tests with nearly 1,000 tests being conducted daily.
It may be pointed out here that two rounds/phases of sero surveys have been already conducted in Bhubaneswar by the BMC in collaboration with RMRC here.
The second phase of the sero surveillance conducted across 25 wards of the Bhubaneswar had found antibody prevalence rate at 5.15 per cent.
The two-day-long second phase community serological study conducted on August 28 and 29 had targeted to collect 1,500 samples but actually received 1,320 samples from various locations from where the Phase I samples were collected earlier.
The first phase sero survey in the city had found antibody prevalence of 1.42 per cent.
Serological surveillance provides insights into community exposure levels.
