COVID-19: Enforcement By Odisha Police To Be Intensified During Festivals

Bhubaneswar: Total of 161 platoons of armed police are manning the streets of Odisha during the ongoing lockdown triggered by the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The enforcement activity will be further intensified during the upcoming festivals like Rajo, celebrated across Odisha with much fanfare. Additional DGP (Law and Order) Yashwant Jethwa appealed to people to strictly adhere to Covid guidelines while celebrating the festivals. Violators will face action, he said.

“In the last two months 4.76 lakh violators have been prosecuted and Rs 14.58 crore fines collected. Total 3,500 markets, shops, and institutions have been sealed and 278 cases were registered. For violation of lockdown 1,332 persons were arrested. Similarly, 29,000 vehicles were seized, 3,797 excise cases registered and 85,000 litres of liquor seized by Odisha police,” said Jethwa.

The vaccination drive has been expanded in Odisha and the centres are guarded by police personnel. “Maintain order and do now crowd the vaccination centres. Follow the regulations set by the local authorities for the vaccination centres,” he added. Jethwa also urged people to be watchful against cybercriminals who have become active during the Covid lockdown.
