Cuttack: Durga Puja, one of the most awaited and sought after festival in the year, will be a very low key affair in the Twin City this time. Police Commissioner Sudhanshu Sarangi today held a meeting with Puja Committee members of the Silver City and discussed the modalities of the Puja amid COVID crisis.
Speaking to media persons Sarangi said that the puja committees have assured the authorities to cooperate and restrict the celebration to a minimum this year. The puja committees of Cuttack have come forward with a proposal to conduct the Durga Puja, Kali Puja and Kartikeswar Puja this year, amid COVID-19 pandemic.
“We welcome the proposals. Any decision which would be taken will be taken with a consensus. Following today’s meeting, there are a couple of other discussions following which a formal regulation will be announced,” the Police Commissioner said.
Going by the preliminary discussions, it has been decided that puja / rituals will be held in closed pandals in the presence of very few people. The people have to be responsible to ensure that there are no crowds. The immersion ceremony will not be a grand one. It would be just a basic Visarjan,” said Sarangi.
There will be a meeting with the Puja Committee members in Bhubaneswar on Monday. Another discussion will be held with political leaders on Tuesday. An official announcement will be made on the restrictions for Puja following the completion of these meeting in a few of days, he added.
