Covid-19 In Odisha: No Durga Puja Celebration In Cuttack Pandals This Year

Cuttack: In view of the Covid-19 pandemic, the district administration today decided not to allow holding of community Durga Puja in any pandal/mandap in Cuttack city and in the district as well.

“Presently, in view of the situation due to Covid in Cuttack district for public safety and health we will not grant permission for any gathering. Under such circumstances, it will not be possible for holding Durga Puja in community pandals. Everyone can worship Maa Durga in their homes at the individual level. Worship at pandals will not be feasible,” Cuttack Collector and District Magistrate Bhabani Shankar Chayani told OMMCOM NEWS over the phone today.

“We are, therefore, requesting people to observe puja at the individual-level and desist from community-level puja at pandals/mandaps,” Chayani added.

Earlier in the day, Cuttack Balu Bazaar Puja Committee filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the Orissa High Court seeking to allow Durga Puja celebrations in the city keeping in view the 500-year-old tradition. The committee in its petition has assured the court to abide by all COVID-19 guidelines.
It may be noted here that the Commissionerate Police had not allowed holding of community celebration of Ganesh Puja in the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.
