Koraput: An innovative initiative by the District Institute of Education & Training (DIET) Jeypore, for imparting education to children from far-flung villages of the district, has supported learning amid trying times.
During the lockdown triggered by COVID-19, the DIETJ, led by its head Arabinda Madhei have taken classrooms to doorsteps. The staff visit villages in the district and organise classes for children. Apart from the academics, the trained teachers engage the children in constructive entertainment.
The programme maintains continuity in academics and also aims at personality development of the children. The programme has been supported by Directorate of Teacher Education and SCERT (State Council of Educational Research and Training) and UNICEF.
At a juncture, when a number of underprivileged children are kept from online classes due to absence of smartphone or laptop, the initiative by DIET, Jeypore is a commendable, the intelligentsia of the district and State in general have opined.
