Bhubaneswar: Odisha Police has collected a whopping sum of Rs 4.5 crore as fine from people caught in public places without masks across the State.
Director General of Police (DGP) Abhay informed this while attending a high-level review meeting on containing COVID-19 chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today.
Taking part in the meeting, Abhay further informed that a sum of Rs 63 lakh has been collected as fine from offenders for violation of social distancing norms in the State.
The DGP said that as many as 6,919 cases have been registered against violators across the State for violation of COVID regulations.
Abhay told the meeting that COVID regulations are being strictly implemented in the State and stringent action is being taken against other violations.
The State Government has made wearing of mask compulsory. It has increased the fine amount for offenders from Rs 200 to Rs 500.
The penalty amount has also been increased to Rs 1,000 after two repeated violations on mask use.
