COVID-19 Positive Case Tally In Odisha Remains At 2, Informs Bagchi

Bhubaneswar: While Odisha Governemnt is taking strict measures to contain the spread of Coronavirus in the State, Chief Spokesperson on COVID-19 Management, Subroto Bagchi today said the public needs to respect and follow ‘Lockdown’ sincerely.

Addressing the scheduled presser today evening, Bagchi said that so far 85 samples have been sent for testing out of which two persons have tested positive in Odisha.

Total 3,667 persons (people with recent foreign travel history) have registered on State Government’s COVID-19 portal till Monday (March 23, 2019) and 35 persons are currently in ‘Hospital Isolation’ in Odisha.

In India the number was 332 on Sunday which has shot up to 425. The number of persons who died due to COVID-19 infection in India was 8 till today (Monday). We need not panic but cannot afford to be complacent, he said.

“The numbers are increasing rapidly in first world countries. We cannot assume that things are fine and under control. The awareness and alert needs to be at the highest levels than ever before,” Bagchi added.

Citing the example of United States of America, he said, the country was having around few hundred patients but now it has risen to 35,000 and today USA stands at number 3 position in the world.

The number of COVID-19 patients in five countries till Monday afternoon, as informed by Bagchi are:

China – 81,000

Italy – 59,000

USA – 35,000

Spain – 29,000

Germany – 25,000

“The numbers are rising exponentially. We can say that these are exploding. Situation is alarming and we need to act responsibly during lockdown,” he added.
