COVID-19 Scare: Odisha Family Loses Track Of Youth In Iran

Cuttack: With the surge in coronavirus cases across the globe, fear has gripped a family in Cuttack of Odisha after they lost track of a member working in Iran.

Syed Mufizur Rahman is working with an Iranian shipping company Ario Makran Sea since September 28, 2019. However, his family lost contact with him since the third week of February this year, days after the first case of COVID-19 was reported from the country (Iran).

As per Rahman’s maternal uncle Syed Afrose Ali, when contacted, the company authorities informed that he is presently on a ship named MV BEHDOKHT that is presently sailing and out of any network coverage.

When the family members asked the company to contact the vessel through satellite phone to know details about its current position and when it will reach land, the company didn’t give any positive answer.

Finally, Ali contacted former MP and National Vice President & Spokesperson of BJP, Baijayant Panda, seeking Rahman’s repatriation to India. Subsequently, Panda wrote a letter to the Indian ambassador in Iran Gaddam Dharmendra.

Panda has requested Dharmendra to intervene in this matter and take appropriate action to ensure Rahman’s timely repatriation to India.
