Covid-19: Sero Survey Community Round Finds Very Low Antibody Prevalence Of 5.15% In Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: Results of the community round of second phase sero survey for Covid-19 in Bhubaneswar shows a very low antibody prevalence of 5.15%, informed Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) Commissioner Prem Chandra Chaudhary.

“5.15% indicates a very low prevalence of antibody which means Bhubaneswar is something like one of the protected cities,” the BMC Commissioner claimed briefing reporters here today.

“But because there is very less prevalence, the risk gets higher. Since the prevalence of antibody is absent in a majority of the people there is possibility of an increase in new cases. That is what our trend is showing,” he explained.

Keeping the aforementioned facts in mind Chaudhary requested citizens of Bhubaneswar to seriously observe social distancing and other guidelines pertaining to Covid-19 like wearing masks, maintain a distance of two metres and frequent hand washing.

The BMC Commissioner, however, clarified that sero survey of the high-risk group remains to be done.

He said around 1500-1600 samples were drawn for the community round of the second phase sero surveillance.
