Bhubaneswar: Khurda Collector Sangram Keshari Mohapatra on Tuesday handed over a cheque of Rs 15 lakh to the family of journalist Shabnam Shirin who died due to COVID-19 last year.
Shirin, a popular radio jockey, journalist and passionate photographer was 38 years old when she succumbed to COVID in May, 2021.
The Information and Public Relations Department carried out the necessary formalities, collected vital information and forwarded the proposal to the State Government for approval.
Following the Government’s nod for the relief funds, Khurda Collector handed over the cheque of Rs 15 lakh to Shirin’s husband Kamaruddin Khan. Shirin is survived by her husband and daughter Seenam.
Khan thanked the State Government for the timely COVID-death-related financial assistance. Among others, Additional Collector Anuj Kumar Das Patnayak, District Emergency Officer Urmiprava Mohapatra and District I&PR Officer Pathani Rout were present.
