Bhubaneswar: The Puri district administration today requested outsiders not to visit the Pilgrim Town as Covid-19 cases are rising rapidly.
“I would request outsiders not to visit Puri during time as Covid-19 pandemic cases are high. Homestays and guest houses should avoid keeping guests. Cases are rising,” said Puri Sub Collector Bhabataran Sahoo talking to reporters at Puri today.
Sahoo said that entry of outsiders into Odisha by road has been restricted at Balasore and Mayurbhanj border and those coming by train are being subjected to check by municipal officials at the railway station.
People coming from West Bengal are being subjected to screening and surveillance as per guidelines issued by the State government.
The Sub Collector said that the district administration has set up Covid Care Centre, made adequate arrangements for treatment of people and Rapid Response Teams (RRTs) have been deployed.
It is pertinent to mention here that the majority of the tourists who visit Puri come from West Bengal.
In view of the detection of ‘triple mutant’ variant of Coronavirus in West Bengal as per the new guidelines issued by the State government anyone coming to Odisha from West Bengal by personal / hired vehicles (two, three, or Four-wheelers) or entering the state in any other mode shall undergo mandatory institutional/ paid quarantine for 14 days in Cluster TMC to be managed by BDO/EO of Urban areas.
Similarly, all passengers coming from West Bengal alighting at Bhubaneswar/ Jharsuguda Airport shall be mandatorily subjected to institutional quarantine/ paid quarantine for 14 days at facilities identified /ordered by District Magistrate/ Municipal Commissioner or any officer duly authorised on his/her behalf.
