Puri: The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) has requested the Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) of Odisha Health and Family Welfare (H&FW) Department for vaccinating all the sebayats (temple servitors) and their family members at the earliest as they are now being exposed to the devotees entering the shrine for darshan of deities from today without producing Covid negative report.
In his formal request made to the H&FW ACS, SJTA chief administrator has cited that all the devotees have been allowed to enter the temple for darshan without showing Covid negative report from today onwards. Earlier, that had not been the practice as entry without a valid Covid negative report was not entertained.
As a large number of devotees are now expected to enter the temple for darshan and the sebayats will obviously come in direct contact with the devotees, the apprehension of being infected by Covid-19 cannot be ruled out, the SJTA chief has pointed out in his letter to the H&FW ACS.
He has proposed that all the temple servitors and their family members should be vaccinated on priority basis.
He has further proposed that all the 500 SJTA employees should also be inoculated along with the temple servitors and their kin.
Earlier, the matter had been raised at the Chhatisha Nijog meeting and it was unanimously decided to put forth such a proposal before the State Government, a press note stated.
