Dhenkanal: Acting on complaints of an LPG black marketing in the town, a joint enforcement team led by the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) and the District Food Supplies Officer carried out surprise inspections at multiple gas outlets on Saturday, following directions from the district administration.
During a raid at shop near Sasan Chhak, officials seized a total of 27 LPG cylinders, including 24 domestic and 3 commercial units. The shop, primarily engaged in gas stove sales and repair, was not authorised to store such a large number of cylinders, officials said.
Authorities suspect that the recovery points to possible black-marketing of LPG cylinders, which has been contributing to the supply crunch in the area. The seized cylinders have been taken into custody, and further investigation is underway to determine the source and intended distribution network.
Officials indicated that strict action will be taken against those found violating the norms under the Essential Commodities Act and related regulations. The district administration has also warned of intensified inspections in the coming days to curb illegal hoarding and ensure uninterrupted supply to genuine consumers.
