Puri: A number of cracks have developed on the Meghanada Pacheri, the massive boundary wall enclosing the Puri Jagannath Temple, giving rise to concerns over the safety of the 12th-century shrine.
According to reports, waste water from the Ananda Bazaar inside the temple premises is seeping through the cracks and patches of algae have begun to cover parts of the Meghanada Precheri.
A servitor of the temple said that water has been leaking through the Meghanada Pacheri since 2021 but the administration is yet to undertake any repair work. Servitors as well as devotees voiced concern over cracks appearing on the temple boundary wall and underlined the need to undertake immediate repair work.
Responding to the issue, Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) Chief Administrator Arabinda Padhee said, “We are equally concerned about the current state of the Meghanada Pacheri. The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) and technical teams have inspected the wall and essential repair and restoration work will commence soon.”
