Bhubaneswar: A five-member team of Crime Branch CID visited the Bharatpur Police Station in Bhubaneswar to probe into the charges of an Army Major against the Bharatpur Police. Acting on the directive of Odisha DGP YB Khurania, Additional DGP CID/Crime Arun Bothra deputed DSP Narendra Kumar Behera to investigate the CID CB PS Case no 10/2024.
According to reports, the Crime Branch team headed by DSP Behera interrogated the Bharatpur police station personnel for more than four hours and examined documents related to the case.
For the uninitiated, Army Major Guruwant Singh of the 22 Sikh Regiment in Kolkata and his girlfriend Ankita Pradhan allegedly attacked five cops of the Bharatpur police station on September 14 late at night for refusing to register an FIR against a few youths who had reportedly assaulted the Major’s lady friend.
Bharatpur police had alleged Singh and his girlfriend visited the police station around 3.00 am to lodge a complaint. However, when a lady Sub Inspector on duty asked Singh and his girlfriend to lodge a written complaint, they reportedly refused and attacked the police personnel.
Singh’s girlfriend allegedly bit the lady Sub Inspector and attacked four constables injuring them. Subsequently, the police arrested the Army Major and his girlfriend and later Singh was released on bail from the police station.
Meanwhile, another complaint was been filed by the retired Army association alleging that police personnel thrashed the Army Major and his girlfriend on September 14 night.
Meanwhile, the case will come up for hearing in the Orissa High Court at 10:30 am on Wednesday. The court has also asked the Investigating Officer to appear before it and present the medical report of the Major’s girlfriend.
