Balasore: The Crime Branch team, led by DSP Iman Kalyan Nayak, visited the Fakir Mohan College in Balasore today as part of the ongoing investigation into the self-immolation of a student allegedly due to harassment by an assistant professor.
“We have just initiated our investigation and are collecting preliminary evidence from the ground,” DSP Nayak stated. “We will examine CCTV footage and may interrogate ICC committee members, her friends, and others if required. We are covering all aspects of the case.”
The Crime Branch took over the probe into the student’s death on Wednesday. Director General of Police, CID-CB, Vinaytosh Mishra, had ordered DSP Nayak to lead the investigation.
Earlier, the Balasore Police had arrested two individuals – Samira Kumar Sahoo, the Head of the Education Department, and Dillip Ghose, the Principal of FM College. They have been booked under various sections, including those related to abetment, criminal intimidation, sexual harassment, stalking, and insulting the modesty of a woman.
