Crime Branch Confirms Paralakhemundi ACF Caught Fire In Official Quarter

Berhampur: The Crime Branch team that is assisting the Gajapati Police to uncover the mystery behind the death of Paralakhemundi’s Assistant Conservator of Forest (ACF) Soumya Ranjan Mohapatra today confirmed his official quarter as the spot where he had suffered burn injuries.

The team led by Crime Branch DSP Bijay Kumar Mallik visited the official quarter today along with the Investigating Officer (IO) and Paralakhemundi SDPO.

After an inspection of the premises, Mallik said that the official quarter is the spot where the incident has occurred as a plastic mosquito net installed on the skylight at a height of nine-foot has melted, some portion of the back door has burned through and some remnants of burned clothing were found in the house.

He further said that no disturbed site or spot was found outside the house, so the team came to the conclusion that the incident has occurred inside the house. The Crime Branch team also found some letters written by Soumya’s wife Bidya Bharati Panda for the transfer of her husband and other documents.

Gajapati SP Tapan Kumar Patnaik had yesterday said that all the persons involved in the case such as Soumya’s wife Bidya Bharati, the Divisional Forest Officer of Paralakhemundi Sangram Behera, and cook Manath Kumba will be subjected to interrogation during the due course of the investigation.
