Bhubaneswar: The Crime Branch has arrested another key accused in the multi-crore Police Sub-Inspector job scam. Biswaranjan Behera, a resident of Bidyadharpur in Cuttack, was an active member of the syndicate and played a crucial role in communicating with job aspirants on the instructions of the syndicate head.
According to the investigation, Behera would collect original certificates and blank cheques from candidates, promising them question papers in return. He would then hand over these documents to the syndicate head.
Behera has been forwarded to the JMFC court in Berhampur.
This arrest comes on the heels of the earlier arrest of 114 examinees and three middlemen in connection with the scam. The Crime Branch is still on the hunt for the masterminds behind the racket, including Shankar Prusty and Muna Mohanty.
The scam was exposed when a group of candidates were intercepted by the police while being ferried to Vijayanagaram in Andhra Pradesh for special coaching for the SI examination. The police had received a tip-off and apprehended three luxurious buses carrying the candidates and middlemen at the Andhra-Odisha border on October 1.
