Bhubaneswar: Odisha Crime Branch arrested two accused persons for duping a woman of over Rs. 1.56 crore under the Prize Chits & Money Circulation Scheme (Banning) Act 1978.
The accused persons are Kamadev Rout and Bikram Kumar Jethi. The victim, Mamata Rout, had invested in various online gaming platforms based on promises of high returns.
The accused allegedly lured the victim into transferring Rs. 57.39 lakh to their bank accounts and handing over Rs. 98.60 lakh in cash between February 2024 and February 2025. Investigation revealed that the accused had transferred significant amounts to their accounts and purchased immovable properties, including land, vehicles, and gold ornaments.
The Crime Branch team apprehended the accused when they visited Cuttack to extract more money from the victim. Electronic gadgets were seized, and further investigation is underway to uncover the accused’s links and investments. The accused will be produced before the Designated Court under the OPID Act in Cuttack.
