Cuttack: The Crime Branch of Odisha Police will home deliver the recovered stolen items, including mobile phones, to their rightful owners. This initiative aims to bring relief and convenience to victims of theft.
According to DG of Police Y. B. Khurania, the Crime Branch has successfully recovered around 102 stolen mobile phones from across the state with the help of the Central Equipment Identity Register of the Central Government.
The recovered mobile phones were returned to their owners at the Crime Branch headquarters in Cuttack. However, to make the process more convenient, the Crime Branch will now deliver the recovered items directly to the owners’ homes, the DGP said.
The Crime Branch recovered several stolen mobile phones from across the state and arranged for their return to the owners. I would request the Crime Branch to intensify such crackdowns to recover not only mobile phones but also other valuable items belonging to the general public. I must thank those who have come here to retrieve their mobile phones, as they have spared extra time to do so. I request the ADG, Crime Branch, to make arrangements for the return of stolen items to the public at their doorstep next time,” DGP YB Khurania said.
This move is expected to bring a smile to the faces of the victims, said an official.
People who got back their stolen gadgets also expressed happiness over the Crime Branch initiative.
“I lost my mobile phone in June 2023 in the Old Town area in Bhubaneswar. I had lodged a complaint at Lingaraj police station and immediately registered it on the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) site. I received a call from the office of the Crime Branch, Cuttack, to collect my stolen mobile phone,” said Bishnu Khuntia, a mobile phone owner.
