Crocodile Drags Off Youth Into River In Jajpur

Jajpur: A youth who was fishing in Chingudianala, a branch of the Kharasrota river near Udayanathpur panchayat of Bari block in Jajpur district has gone missing after he was reportedly dragged by a crocodile today.

The missing youth has been identified as Soumyaranjan Mallick of Kaharaganda village.

Soumyaranjan along with his younger brother Soubhagya had gone to catch fish in Chingudianala when he was attacked by the crocodile.

While he was attacked by the crocodile Soumyaranjan shouted for help but by the time his younger brother Soubhagya who was on the other bank of the river could do anything, the predator had dragged its victim deep into the water.

When the search by locals ended in vain, a team of the ODRAF has reached the spot and have launched a search and rescue operation.

Bari MLA Sunanda Das visited the victim’s family and conveyed her sympathies.

Das said that she will be speaking to the Collector and the SRC and whatever help is possible from the government side will be extended to the victim’s family.
