Bhubaneswar: A crocodile was sighted in the Mahanadi River near Durdura in Birmaharajpur of Subarnapur district.
The reptile was spotted at Mahanadi Ghat, and after receiving the information, the forest department took action to warn people through loudspeakers, advising them to stay away from the river.
The warning came after some people had gone to bathe in the Mahanadi River yesterday, and the crocodile was spotted during that time. Since then, people have refrained from entering the river.
Forest officials, including Birmaharajpur Ranger Abinash Bariha and Durdura Forest Officer Lingaraj Naik, visited the ghat to inspect the area and warn people about the potential danger.
A team of forest officials also visited nearby villages, including Durdura and Tebhaapadar, to spread awareness and caution people against entering the river. The situation is being closely monitored, and people are advised to exercise caution when near the Mahanadi River.
