Bolangir: Unable to bear crop loss due to a pest attack, a farmer ended his life in Bubel village under Puintala block in Odisha’s Bolangir district allegedly by consuming poison. Identified as Ramesh Bhoi (50), the farmer consumed poison on Tuesday and died during treatment at the Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital on Wednesday morning.
According to reports, Ramesh had raised crops on 10 acres of land this year, but the crop on five acres was damaged due to a pest attack. His family alleged that Ramesh had used pesticides purchased from the local market and used them on his but they were not effective.
The farmer felt depressed when he visited his field on Tuesday and consumed pesticide there. As he fell ill, villagers rushed him to Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital in critical condition. He breathed his last this morning.
