Sundargarh: A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan allegedly died by suicide after shooting himself at Matkanjharan CRPF Camp under Lathikata police limits in Rourkela on Monday morning.
The deceased has been identified as 56-year-old Subhash Prasad, a resident of Uttar Pradesh. He was posted as a havildar.
According to preliminary information, he reportedly used his service weapon to take the extreme step inside the camp premises.
Though the exact reason behind the incident is yet to be ascertained, preliminary reports indicated that personal or family-related disputes might have led to the tragic act.
Upon being informed Lathikata police reached the spot and have launched an investigation into the matter.
It may be noted that the Matkanjharan CRPF Camp was set up in October last year along the Odisha–Jharkhand border to curb growing Maoist activities in the region. The camp was inaugurated by Western Range DIG Brijesh Rai in the presence of Rourkela SP Nitesh Wadhwani.
