Balasore: The curfew in Balasore Municipality will be relaxed for four hours from 7 AM to 11 AM on Thursday.

Balasore Collector Ashish Thakare informed media after holding a meeting with senior officers and people’s representatives at his office.

Balasore MP Pratap Sarangi, ADG Sanjay Kumar, SP Sagarika Nath discussed with the Collector regarding the situation in the town.

The decision to relax the restriction has been taken to facilitate public to purchase emergency articles like medicines, vegetables, milk and other food materials.

The relaxation will not, however, apply to any public gathering or large scale movement of people.

The internet will remain suspended excluding bank and some government offices, the Collector clarified.

Police have so far arrested 35 people and forwarded them to court involved in the violent clash that led to the curfew in the civic body areas.

Several people have been detained in connection with the flare-up. As many as 40 platoons of police forces and one company of BSF have been deployed in the town. Five more companies of BSF will arrive in the town tomorrow, the Collector said.

The administration has appealed to the public to maintain peace and order. Action will be taken against those who take law into their hands, the Collector added.

The curfew was imposed in the civic body after a clash broke out between two communities over alleged animal slaughter.
