Sambalpur: Violence hit Sambalpur town is gradually limping back to normalcy.
While curfew has been lifted from areas coming under four police stations of the town-Khetrajpur, Ainthapalli, Bareipalli, and Sadar, it will be lifted from the remaining two police stations today.
“After the April 12 and 14 incidents, as of now, we have lifted curfew from four police station areas. Now normalcy has returned. Night curfew is in force in the areas under the jurisdiction of the two remaining police stations-Town and Dhanupalli. We have assessed the situation and will lift the same today,” informed Sambalpur SP Batula Gangadhar addressing a presser here today.
Gangadhar requested the public to use social media responsibly.
“Public should use social media responsibly. Should refrain from sharing or spreading unnecessary rumours or any inflammatory or hate messages. We have a control room and one can verify any incident by calling the control room on 112,” Gangadhar appealed.
He informed that a social media monitoring cell has been created.
As many as 16 persons were called to the police station for sharing and spreading hate posts on social media.
The police have let them go after obtaining an undertaking from them, he added.
“Public needs to remain alert against any hate or inflammatory messages against any particular community. As of now we have called group admins of two groups and have let them go on PR Bond. Cases will be registered against violators if it attracts IPC provisions, bonds will be taken and if required warrants will be issued,” Gangadhar warned.
The SP told that as of now 46 persons have been arrested in connection with the April 12 incident, and 56 have been arrested in connection with April 14 incident.
