Bhubaneswar: Curfew has been lifted from the entire Sambalpur Town in Odisha on Sunday. While the prohibitory orders were withdrawn from four police station areas of this violence-hit Western Odisha town on Saturday, the authorities revoked curfew from areas under Town and Dhanupalli police jurisdictions on Sunday.
On Saturday morning, the curfew was lifted earlier from Khetrajpur, Ainthapalli, Bareipalli, and Sadar police station areas in two phases.
The decision to withdraw the prohibitory orders was taken in view of the improvement in the overall law and order situation. The city had witnessed violent scenes following a clash during Hanuman Jayanti celebrations on April 14. Prior to Hanuman Jayanti celebrations, a stone pelting incident was also reported on April 12, 2023. While the rally was passing through Motijharan Square, some persons pelted stones at the participants of the rally.
It is worth mentioning here that internet services were suspended in the town on April 13 and a curfew was imposed the following day in the wake of the clashes between two groups on April 14.
