Bargarh: Tension prevails in the district headquarters town of Bargarh after police resorted to baton charging on protestors blocking the road at Gandhi Chowk in Khedapalli area here today.
According to reports, protestors were staging a dharna demanding justice for the family of a youth who had been allegedly beaten to death by the police in custody.
Protestors, who were the co-villagers of the deceased had kept the body on the road and had blocked it while staging a dharna.
Reportedly, the youth identified as Govind Kumbhar of Tura village under Bargarh Town Police Station limits was picked up by the cops in connection with a case of rioting from his house at around 3.00 AM today and was detained at the police station.
However, as Govind’s health condition deteriorated, he was shifted to District Headquarters Hospital at Khedapalli here. He was declared dead by the doctors at the hospital.
Relatives of the deceased ransacked the hospital premises alleging that their kin was beaten to death by the police in custody.
