Bhubaneswar: The cut-off date for enrolment of farmers in Odisha under Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) for the ongoing Kharif season has been extended up to 10th August 2024 by the Government of India.
The Crop Insurance Division of the Department of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare under the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Government of India has issued a letter to the Commissioner cum Secretary, Cooperation Department, Government of Odisha in this connection.
“….Taking into consideration the interest of the farmers in the State, GOI consents and approves the extension of the cut-off date for enrolment of the farmers for all crops notified under PMBFY beyond 31st July 2024 for 10 days till 10th of Aug 2024 for Kharif 2024 season. The GOI premium share shall be payable during the extended period. The National Crop Insurance Portal shall be open during this period for enrolment,” reads the letter.
In the letter, the State government has been asked to take necessary actions in this regard with CSC, Banks and other Channel partners to ensure maximum enrolment of farmers during this extended period. The State government has been also requested to take utmost care in eliminating moral hazards and anti-selection during this extended period in compliance with the Operational Guidelines.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Cooperation Department had written a letter to the Department of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Govt of India seeking an extension of the cut-off date for enrolment of crops notified under PMFBY for Kharif 2024 for 10 days till 10th Aug 2024 citing challenges faced due to model code of conduct, enhancement for scale of finance and delay in sanctioning of loans for Kharif crops by the banks.
