Bhubaneswar: The Union government has extended the cut-off date for enrolment of farmers in Odisha under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojna (PMFBY) for Kharif season 2023 up to August 5.
In a letter to the Director of Agriculture & Food Production of Odisha, the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare stated that the cut-off date for enrolment of farmers under PMFBY for Kharif season 2023 has been extended from July 23 to August 5 on the request by Odisha government.
All concerned insurance companies – AIC of India, Future General, SBI General Insurance, and Reliance General Insurance Company – operating in Odisha have consented to the extension of the cut-off date, the letter said.
Now, loanee and non-loanee farmers can register through banks/PACS/LAMPCS, CSCs, agents of insurance companies, and on the NCIP portal before the deadline. The Centre will pay the premium during the extended period, the letter read.
Earlier, the Odisha government had written to the ministry seeking an extension of the cut-off date as a large number of farmers had not submitted their applications due to delays in notification and implementation of new technologies. The government has also announced that it would bear farmers’ insurance share up to 2 hectares.
Meanwhile, Arabinda Kumar Padhee, Principal Secretary, Cooperation Department, Government of Odisha, has urged all concerned to gear up to achieve the assigned target by the extended timeline.
“As a team, let’s deliver the very best, and enroll the maximum number of farmers to benefit them from the state government’s decision of bearing farmers’ share of premium up to 2 hectares, he said.
