Cuttack: Commissionerate Police on Tuesday night successfully nabbed the two prime accused involved in the sensational robbery-cum-gangrape of Jhinkiria village in 42 Mouza under Sadar police limits in Cuttack district and claimed to round up the other two absconding miscreants soon.

Addressing a press meet on Wednesday afternoon, Cuttack DCP Sanjeev Arora said that the two accused arrested have been identified as Ratana alias Ratnakar Das (20) and Gada alias Gadadhar Das (35) of Nuapada village under Dhamnagar police limits in Bhadrak district. Both have criminal antecedents and several cases are pending against them.

The DCP informed that in course of investigation, the stolen mobile phone was recovered from the possession of Ratnakar Das and basing on his statement co-accused Gadadhar Das was apprehended.

“Investigation is on full swing to nab other involved criminals and recovery of other stolen valuables,” the DCP said.

The deplorable incident took place on July 26 night at about 2 am during the absence of the husband of the victim who had been to Cuttack city’s Thoria Sahi-based Shanti Hospital to attend one ailing patient admitted there.

The four unknown criminals barged into the house of the complainant breaking the front door lock. They assaulted the wife, mother of a 3-year-old son and 6-year-old daughter, and committed robbery of approximately Rs 5,000 cash, one black colour Samsung mobile phone, one gold mangalsutra (pious necklace of a married woman) and two pairs of silver paunji (ornament worn around the feet near ankle).

After committing robbery, the miscreants in a barbaric act even resorted to forcibly dragging the woman to the half-kilometre away river bed of Kathajodi and committed gangrape on her, the DCP narrated.

The two arrested accused will undergo a TI parade and forwarded to court on the Thursday.
