Cuttack: 5 Arrested For Bike Lifting, 22 Vehicles Seized

Cuttack: In a continuous drive against anti-social elements, Cuttack Police busted a bike-lifting gang and arrested five. Also, 22 motorcycles were seized, informed Cuttack DCP Prateek Singh.

The arrested men have been identified as Rinku alias Kunjabihari Nayak (25), Silu alias Soumendra Das (21), Kalia alias Niranjan Behera, Dolia alias Surjakant Khatua (19) and Taju Khan (45). Singh said that the gang was active in Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Khordha and Cuttack districts with seven to eight bike lifting incidents solely from the Cuttack city.

Briefing the media Cuttack DCP said, “On October 15 one Saroj Ku Behera had registered a bike theft case at Badambadi Police Station. Upon investigation, his bike was recovered and we found information on thieves named Rinku and Silu. During the course of a detailed probe, we found out about his associates who were then arrested today.”

He added that all of the arrestees are history sheets and regular bike lifters. Rinku has 10, Silu 8 and Kalia has 20 cases registered against them at various police stations. Meanwhile, Dolia and Taju Khan were receivers.

“Further probe is underway and we are trying to ascertain their modus operandi. We have also amped night patrolling and frequent checks to reduce such incidents,” said Cuttack DCP before wrapping up.
