Cuttack: The gala event of Bali Jatra is underway at Mahanadi coast here and open for sale for the first time is three North-Eastern states of Assam, Manipur and Nagaland.
Bali Jatra, the largest open-air trade and cultural fair in the State, is known to house stalls of all kinds which sell a huge variety of products. Lore even says that from needle to an aeroplane, everything can be found here. And the reality is not much different. From eateries to real estate, from gym equipment to home décor, from condiments to educational software, from furniture to accessories, from portable ATMs to coin vending machines, this carnival has everything displayed, advertised, bought and sold with crores of turnover every year.
Joining the fest this year are three stalls from Assam, Manipur and Nagaland. Targeting the upcoming winter season, they have brought with them handmade woollens ranging from shawls, sweaters, ponchos, scarves and many others.
As Bali Jatra is a shopper’s delight and a one-stop destination for street food lovers, making it one of the liveliest carnivals of Odisha, it is a much-awaited annual affair of the State. The historic fest began on November 12 and will continue for over a week.
