Cuttack: The historic Bali Jatra will not be held this year. The Cuttack administration took the decision to cancel the age-old maritime festival amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Cuttack Collector Bhabani Shankar Chaini shared the update with the media citing that the festival attracts lakhs of people every year. Hence the State Government and district administration have decided against organizing the annual festival of Bali Jatra.
Chaini added that the restrictions are in place only for the community celebration of Boita Bandana (worshipping of boats). He added that Bada Osa celebrations at Shiva temples would also be restricted.
Recently, the Durga Puja celebrations in the State were also low-key. The Government had restricted the devotees into the pandal and number organising members to seven per pandal. The immersion ceremony was also subdued.
Prior to this, Ganesh Puja and Eid celebrations were also subdued.
