Cuttack: The Commissionerate Police cracked the 42-mouja firing incident after arresting the accused, Prakash Sutar. The incident occurred on Saturday evening, following a heated argument over a carrom game, fuelled by alcohol consumption on Holi festival.

At a press meet, DCP Khilari Rishikesh Dnyandeo said that Prakash Sutar had a dispute with Vikas Mohanty, which escalated into a violent confrontation. Sutar allegedly shot Mohanty at close range, resulting in his death on the spot.

The DCP revealed that Prakash brought the gun from his village and committed the crime in an intoxicated state. The police have recovered a gun, a bottle of liquor, and other materials from the scene.

“We have seized the pistol, bullet and other materials. The scientific team seized them with due legal procedure. The gun was illegal and we are  investigating the origin of the gun,” the DCP said.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the accused and the victim had no financial disputes, as they were engaged in different businesses. The police have also questioned the family members of the deceased regarding possible personal enmity.

The accused, Prakash Sutar, has a history of residing in various locations, including Kendrapara, Cuttack Badambadi, Kalyani nagar and currently, Bayalis Mouja. The police are investigating the origin of the illegal gun used in the crime.

“Our team is still at the scene and collecting the CCTV footages of the area. We are also verifying the call details records (CDR) of the accused,” the DCP added.

After due legal procedure, Prakash has been forwarded to court. “We will also move court for his remand to extract more information about his gun, he added.
