Cuttack: The patrolling party of Chauliaganj Police Station (PS) under the Commissionerate Police has been successful in nabbing an ATM robber and has also seized oxygen cyclinder, LPG cylinder, gas cutter, pipe etc from his possession that were being used in executing the crime in the city here.
Briefing media, Cuttack DCP Prateek Singh informed that the arrested person Sisir Debanath acquired knowledge of ATM robbery from Youtube and accordingly he procured the oxygen cylinder from a private hospital in Mahanadi Vihar on October 2 while gas cutter and pipe from a strore at College Square on October 8 for the ATM loot. Prior to the commission of the offence, he conducted recce at the SBI ATM counter located at Gandarpur area in front of the Bharat Petrol Pump.
On Sunday night, he on his bike proceeded to the ATM counter along with the incrimating materials. He entered the ATM counter at around 2 pm by disconnecting the siren and speaker. Then, he started cutting the volt in which cash is loaded. Meanwhile, the vibrate sensor installed in the ATM signalled the head office regarding some kind of tampering. The Chauliaganj PS was alerted over phone and the night patrolling team immediately rushed to the spot. While the accused fled from the spot on his bike hearing the police siren, the incriminating materials were seized from the spot. Later, he was arrested.
Even though the culprit had been successful in damaging the volt, he failed to make away with the cash amounting Rs 20,64,100 due to the vibrate sensor alert.
