Cuttack: Notorious extortionist Muna Laden is now in Commissionerate Police’s net as he was arrested near Ravenshaw Collegiate School here in the city under Dargah Bazaar Police Station (PS) limits.
Briefing media, Cuttack DCP Prateek Singh said, “Acting on a tip-off, our Special Squad and Dargah Bazaar PS staff rushed to the spot at once and noticed that a gang of 4-5 goons were threatening a person. Seeing the police approaching them, they started running away. When they were being chased, we were successful in apprehending Muna Laden. We have also seized a 9mm pistol, six rounds of ammunition and a magazine from his possession. But, his associates could manage to escape. We have launched a manhunt to nab them.”
He added, “In this connection, a case has been registered by the Dargah Bazaar PS under Sections 341, 322, 323, 294, 353, 387, 506, 34 IPC and Sections 25 & 27 Arms Act. When further investigation was made into their antecedents, Muna Laden previously acted for the Tito gang. Till date he is active in that gang.”
“His main activity is to interfere in land dispute matter by threatening the party, taking control of the land and sell at higher price. The gang, led by him, mainly threatens the property owners. Also extort money from the land seller and purchaser,” informed the Cuttack DCP.
Police sources also informed that Laden is a habitual offender as he has been to jail several times and commit crimes while on bail.
