Cuttack: The Commissionerate of Police have arrested two persons involved in a case of looting public money by hacking ATM machines. The duo is a part of an inter-state gang that has committed similar crimes in Agra, Delhi, Patna and Rourkela, said DCP Prateek Singh.
The two accused are residents of Gaya in Bihar and had come to Cuttack, two days back. They had travelled to Jharsuguda and Rourkela prior to this.
“As per a complaint, the money was withdrawn but it did not come out of the machine. After verifying the CCTV footage we noted that two persons were manipulating the ATM machines,” Singh said.
They used to fix a plate with the machine, with which the machine does not deliver the cash and the customer assumes that the money was stuck. However, minutes after the customer leaves the kiosk, the miscreants enter the kiosk and pull the cash out, the police said.
Mangalabag police have booked the duo under relevant Sections of the IPC and forwarded them to the court. Further investigation is on.
